About The Artwork

Creation is a happenstance that speaks to others. One day while wandering, I discover the magazine Pénéla, like one discovers a stroke, a colour, a shape or a material. Since 2017, I’ve been searching for and assembling Pénéla, the first French monthly magazine for women in public libraries, published between 1967 and 1973. The Pénéla archives, a body of photocollages based on this collection, is divided into several series, artists’ books and murals, focusing on the evolution of the female figure and the female condition. From contemporary sociology to animal life, via the accident of form, my work is an automatic writing based on the desire to compose in response to the existing image, a resistance to reality without leaving the consciousness of my dreams.

There has never been one singular moment, everything is continuity within a dreamlike geography, to transform is to return to the origin of things like a child who sees for the first time. To discover is to acknowledge that the alphabet is not an eternal score but a boudoir of scents that our soul records. Karin Crona searches and searches again when she has already found, the desire to build her own geography her own house her own people and what a magnificent landscape she offers us the memory becomes a music in prose a music that brings us back to all our senses an otherness proposed in the form of a self-portrait. We only make self-portraits to find out that our hands make us exist. To create is to be nourished from day to day and the unity becomes a whole. We call this the equilibrium of the world.
