Mountain Landscape Artwork

Here’s a small experimental collage made using painted scraps of frayed linen - at first sight a texture-rich mountain landscape with lakes, but upon closer inspection an absurd picture. During the process of stretching a much larger artwork, I kept hold of a stash of painted linen strips, and played around with various combinations until an image started to form. The idea was to throw away as little as possible and to see what I could create with leftovers from finished works. I was particularly interested in using the frayed side of the fabric, and in time this started to suggest a grassy horizon line. I could clearly see a mountainscape, which I suspect may be because I grew up near a mountain range. Maybe you’ll see something different, or nothing at all - like a Rorschach test…
