“Five day signs of the ancient Mesoamerican calendar” white Digitally displayed on white, orange, brown, light gray and blue backgrounds by MM in 2023. Uploaded October 5 2023. Twenty day signs make up, in combination with the numbers 1 to 13, the 260 days calendar of the ancient Mesoamerican cultures. In my photobook Ñundeui I reproduce five from the codex Laud, the painting of death and destinies. Its creator is probably the most gifted Tlacuilo (scribe, painter and seer) of the very few pre-Columbian codices that have survived the burning and destruction in the sixteenth century. Source: Ferdinand Anders, 1930-2023. Austrian ethnohistorian, who specialized in the interpretation of ancient Mesoamerican codices of the Borgia group and of Mayan origin. Water is the essential element of agriculture and the sustenance of all life. The day sign also represents the restlessness and fleeting nature of water. The alligator: A good sign symbolizing the soil, hard work, fertility, richness and abundance. The skull: Represents death and refers to the shortness and transience of life. . The jaguar: Represents courage and power on the battlefield. Also, aggressiveness, pride and a dominating personality. The serpent, or coral snake, represents sexuality, vices, and dangers. The print comes with a 1 cm white border with its title, ancient codex, author and year of creation included on the image as shown. Also available in custom size. Made to order on archival cotton paper in 10 days plus shipping worldwide. If interested please contact mario.mutschlechner@gmail.com

As an industrial photographer from Cologne, Germany, based since 1967 in Mexico City, I used my craft for decades to document scenes and subjects in sharp, detailed and well lit images. Back in the seventies, when simulating views of other planets, I was looking for a different perception of reality and found it with infrared color film. Today I enjoy a creative freedom similar to that of a painter. With the right combination of photograph and digital manipulation I can create images that are a tribute to imagination and beauty. Starting in 2019 I present on Saatchiart 15 collections as a synopsis of my photography, some digitally remastered and others digitally modified, for sale as archival inkjet prints in different sizes.
