One of my favourites of mine. I love the rawness in the painting. Started during the first lockdown in 2020 and finished in 2022, this atmospherically moody relic-like work reflects the lockdowns, death of my friend & narrates 48 hours through abstraction: how my OCD was awful one day, then the next day my mood was better. The death of my closest friend darkened this piece considerably. The arc form bending to the right refers to my psychological state - bent over in suffering/ pathos. I also love how I have produced something aesthetic (to me) from a dark situation, so there is a kind of shamanic/alchemical aspect to my art - transforming something into a new form, as well as the healing aspect of Art. It has a very slight feel of ancient Oceanic or Native American Art about it. Indeed, my Art over the past several years looks simultaneously ancient yet very modern. I wanted a structured intricate composition but I wanted a raw look and aesthetic, following the footsteps of artists like the Abstract Expressionists, Sean Scully, Lasker, John Blackburn and Basil Beattie.

Statement Tutored by the highly acclaimed Stewart Geddes and Stass Paraskos. My atmospheric abstractions portray experiences in places (landscapes and interiors) in an aesthetic way. Experiences in Cyprus, Rome, Scottish Highlands, Wales, Worthing Coast (where I live) and my home interior have provided fantastic inspiration. Urban and natural places both entice me. I'm visually captivated by nature, urban/ natural colours, ruins, architecture, historical art/ artefacts, graffiti and weathered walls in places. A place's history, weather, atmosphere and my emotions also influence my work. That inspiration from a place, determines specific colours, visual effects, moods, shapes and textures, which I improvise with and enjoy for their own sake. I love paint- layering, exploring textures, excavating, collaging and incising it in my relic/organic-like acrylic works, on thick archival papers. It's a fascinating adventure seeing my paintings evolve an independent life/ history of their own, yet still evoking a sense of place.
