“using dried paint in place of fabric to merge art with craft” My interest in quilting has always focussed heavily on the joy of piecing together disparate fabrics, puzzling over visual effects, and creating balance. When it is time to sew, this interest dissipates. In this series, I bring my admiration of patchwork quilts into the art arena. Many paintings are created, pulled from their support, cut, and arranged back onto a canvas culminating in an exuberant pattern combined with mouth-watering colour. Slim, neat, controlled stripes descend into a more chaotic, shaken pattern. This striking artwork combines many different paintings with metallic wallpapers. Each is cut by hand and collaged onto the canvas. Bold, dynamic, and unusual, this large artwork would create a focal point in any contemporary interior. This work is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. On the back, you will find my signature, initials, title, and year. It is registered on the NRAA (National Registry for Australian artists). The work comes with details of the registration and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Artist Statement “When the paint is dry my work is just beginning”. The thought that paint could be capable of independence from the canvas has been the driving force behind Julee’s art practice. It led to her process of creating paintings on plastic waiting for the paint to dry before she removes it. The unsupported material has an inherent flexibility that allows Julee to investigate her interest in textile, collage, and sculptural techniques. Through cutting, layering, moulding, weaving, and gluing, each creation is the result of many hours of meticulous and detailed work. An artist since childhood, Julee holds a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth. She is also the author of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing Ltd, USA). Her works can be found in collections, both public and private, worldwide.
