Hand carved wood sculpture. The material is called jelutong. The inspiration for this sculpture are two (in my opinion) great objects. A green paper bag and a greyhound. Both forms are an interesting challenge to be turned into a sculpture using wood material. The green bag has the same color and is made of wood, the structure of the paper with its hundreds surfaces is a piece of art on its own. But this was not enough in this particular artwork. The introduction of the greyhound made the idea more spectacular. It appears to be the main object, but in fact it is coming out from the bag. To capture the moment of running and find the best position and balance was the key part of the creative process, the rest is carving skills. The message behind the sculpture is encrypted into the title. Shopping Rush represents the obsession with shopping of nowadays fashionistats. There is some sort of urgency in that process. That is why the shopping bag get mad and turns into a running greyhound.

My focus is mainly on sculpture in wood. While working with it the aim is to present unusual for the reality objects, with strange presence which evoking amazement. That includes transformation of the form to surreal level, implementing colours and structures. To capture a unique moment or action (like leaking liquid or underwater bubbles) is another of the problems contained in my sculptures. I reckon the wood is the most unique sculpture material, the fact it has been something alive and later transformed into a piece of art reminds of reincarnation. Physically I like the touch of wood, it gives me a full control of the process and this where I feel absolutely free to express myself. The styles and approaching in my works vary from the experience of the classic woodcarving to the modern cleared form. Whatever I do, the figurative and the recognizable is an imperative, I enjoy seeing the impact of my works and their dominance over the space they are placed.
