"Mandala of technology" MDA, Skylab one g. trainer, NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, Texas, 1973. This is my favorite symbol of technology as a tool to enter other worlds. It shows the Multiple Docking Adapter of the Skylab duplicate with the console for observing the sun at center left. The handrails, controls and compartments that cover the walls without indicating up or down disoriented some astronauts. Based on Skylab the interiors of the International Space Station now in orbit simulate floor and ceiling to facilitate orientation. To capture the entire interior I used a 180 degrees fisheye lens and added a yellow filter to give a “Yellow submarine” feeling. The result is a glowing mandala, the circle or wheel of Eastern religions that induces meditation and connects the personal with the cosmic sphere. In the seventies I had high hopes that the extraterrestrial perspective might expand human consciousness. In some individuals it does, but going into space does not change man. Today I confirm that spirituality requires a spiritual disposition and the desire and determination to transcend the material world. The 56 cm print comes in a limited edition of 9. Title, author and year of manufacture are included on the print. The print comes with a 2 cm white border. Made to order on archival cotton paper in 10 days plus shipping. As an industrial photographer from Cologne, Germany, based since 1967 in Mexico City, I used my craft for decades to document scenes and subjects in sharp, detailed and well lit images. Back in the seventies, when simulating views of other planets, I was looking for a different perception of reality and found it with infrared color film. Today I enjoy a creative freedom similar to that of a painter. With the right combination of photograph and digital manipulation I can create images that are a tribute to imagination and beauty. Starting in 2019 I present on Saatchiart 15 collections as a synopsis of my photography, some digitally remastered and others digitally modified, for sale as archival inkjet prints in different sizes.
