Oil on wood, ready to hang. Signed on the back. This artwork comes with an external frame and is ready to hang. This is a work of contrasts and high tactile appeal. It has been created through many layers and old layers can sometimes be seen peeking through the texture of fresh layers. The inspiration behind it is weathered surfaces that have seen the passage of time and either withstood their ground or peeled away. Countless, forgotten layers of life often lie just below the surface of new developments. This painting provides a new detail to observe and reflect over at every turn. It would sit equally well in a room with bright light or one with areas of quiet repose and atmospheric lighting.

Australia
I am ethnically a Pakistani artist, living and working in Sydney. I am self-taught and enjoy painting landscapes and still life in oils. I allow my art practice to evolve in different directions as I discover new materials and ideas. In the past couple of years, I have been enjoying my discovery of beeswax as a painting medium and a lot of my recent work incorporates the heavy texture and subtle shifts of colour that working with wax allows. I am inspired by how light transforms objects and people. Light and shadow are two important characters that populate my work. My paintings develop slowly, in layers of varying thickness and opacity. Each stage of work is instinctive, leading to, and determining, the next. In a meditative conversation between my work and myself, the end often arrives as a revelation. I have travelled and lived for many years in Europe, the Middle East and Pakistan, so the influences in my work are varied and diverse.
