The drawing of this artichoke began during the Covid-19 outbreak in early July of 2020. It took 4 months, 120 drawing hours, and is on Coventry rag paper in a float mount style white frame. The media is graphite and acrylic. I have always hidden some things in my drawings and this one is no exception. She is easy to find and sleeping under a leaf. This artichoke was planted in my garden the fall of 2019. The top artichoke was harvested, brought home and photographed on my kitchen counter and she became my muse for this drawing. This was her first year to bloom and not edible but she became the most majestic plant in the community garden, with over 17 artichokes that had extraordinary purple blooms. Once the blooms had dried, a video was co-created with a friend titled the Flight of an Artichoke Seed. You can see that under the video section of my website.

I have been making art for over 25 years and my newest body of work is so fun and playful. In the beginning of 2022 I told myself I was only going to make art that made me happy. So, I began playing with glitter paper, rainbow colors and space travel. Any thing that sparkles or would take me out to the Cosmos, I played with it. And for some reason I do not understand, I am obsessed with this tree shape. So, I decided right then and there (sitting in my studio) my new years resolution was going to be fun and magic! You can read all the boring stuff below if you want. Katherine Baronet was born in Richmond, VA. After a 15 year career as a fashion model, which took her to many countries in Europe and Japan, she returned to college to complete her Bachelor Degree in Communications Arts from East Texas A&M in Commerce, graduating in 1995. She has worked in the healing arts as the Artist-in-Residence at Methodist Richardson Cancer Center for 5 years. Most recently, she has been selected to be in Craighead Green Gallery’s New Texas Talent show, and is working on a new series of large graphite drawings.
